Contemporary Art

North Down Museum holds a growing selection of modern and contemporary art, whose subject or artist is of local significance. These are often commissions, such as the wooden sculpture in the Museum courtyard entitled ‘Harmony’, by Owen Crawford. There is also a collection of prints produced by various artists associated with Seacourt Print Workshop.

Since August 2011, the Museum has displayed a very special sculpture of Bangor Town Hall, commissioned by North Down Borough Council's Arts Section. Created by local sculptor Brendan Jamison, it is made entirely from sugar cubes! The piece was started in the artist's studio and finished in situ in North Down Museum.
